Card Ban

There has been a persistent problem in the playground with trading cards; for example, children swap the cards and then decide they want them back or lose them completely.  This is causing great upset amongst the children and is very difficult to resolve as it is only word of mouth, they are not identifiable as anyone’s!

So that the school can spend more time encouraging positive play and supporting friendships, the school has decided these cards will be banned.  This means that children with cards will have them taken away and returned at the end of the day.  Please support us with this decision and do not allow your child to bring them into school.

This is a permanent, school-wide ban and it will be actioned consistently in all year groups.

Please see below some examples of the types of card that are now banned:

N.B. These are examples and it is not an exhaustive list. All cards of this nature will be confiscated.

Year 2 Autumn Show

This week the teachers were so full of pride watching the children perform in their show and we hope you were too! They have worked tirelessly to learn songs, lines and performances in such short of space of time and they achieved something really wonderful. We honestly think we’ve got some stars of the future! We would like to thank you for practising the songs, dances and lines at home with the children and the time you put in to creating costumes.

Everybody Writes Day (5th October)

Everybody Writes Day is a fantastic day in the Avenue Academy calendar and the children love it! This year our theme was ‘What’s behind the door?’ and it seemed some monsters had escaped! We linked the day to Monsters Inc and some of the teachers took the opportunity to get a little dressed up to inspire the children. We watched a short clip from the original film and got on our way!

The children  began by designing their own monster who escaped from behind the door. Then we did a role on the wall activity where children thought of adjectives to describe their monster’s personality and appearance. After that they wrote a character description. They were so passionate and excited today that we are carrying it on in Literacy Skills next week where they will be given a chance to write a short story about their monsters journey!

Health and Wellbeing and Genius Time Poster

Year 2 – Health and Wellbeing and Genius Time Poster

Health and Wellbeing is a personalised curriculum for each year group using results from pupil questionnaires and teachers’ knowledge of their classes. The Health and Wellbeing poster explains the strands of our Health and Wellbeing curriculum.

Genius Time is our afternoon of enrichment activities. Children have the opportunity to learn to develop new and existing talents, while learning about our Avenue Values. The Genius Time poster lists the activities on offer this term, suggested activities that could be completed at home and talk topics. If your child completes any activities at home, they can bring them into school to show their class and teacher.

These are our Genius Time Avenue Values for the year:

 Autumn: Resilience

Spring: Perseverance

Summer: Pride in Achievements
